Quick Start Guide (on-premises)

When installing MacroView DMF or MacroView Message with an on-premises SharePoint server you should always install or upgrade the server before installing or upgrading the client.  Note that both MacroView DMF and MacroView Message use MacroView DMF Server.

Server prerequisites

MacroView DMF Server requires:

  • Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 or 2013
  • Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, 2013 or 2016

Server installation

  1. Log on to one of the Web Front Ends (WFE) in your SharePoint farm
  2. Use the account that the SharePoint Farm was setup with or an account with membership to all of the following:

    - Local Administrators group on every WFE
    - SharePoint Farm Administrators group
    - The db_owner role for the Config Database (2007 only)
    - The SharePoint_Shell_Access role on the Configuration Database (2010 and 2013)

  3. Ensure Anonymous Authentication is turned off on the web application you intend on using with DMF.

    Should you require Anonymous Access then create a new web application which extends the same content store.

  4. Copy the MacroView DMF solution to C:\ and run the following command to install the solution to all WFE’s in your farm:

    stsadm -o addsolution -filename "c:\macroview dmf.wsp"

  5. Deploy the solution

    SharePoint 2007
    - Go to Operations in the SharePoint Central Admin Console 
    - Under the Global Configuration heading click on Solution Management 
    - Deploy the MacroView DMF solution
    - Go back to Operations

    SharePoint 2010, 2013 or 2016
    - Go to System Settings in the SharePoint Central Admin Console 
    - Under the Farm Management heading click on Manage Farm Solutions 
    - Deploy the MacroView DMF solution 
    - Go back to System Settings

  6. Activate your License

    - Go to System Settings in the SharePoint Central Admin Console 
    - Under the MacroView Licensing heading click on Manage Product Licensing
    -
    Click Online Activation
    -
    Enter your Licence Key and click Next
    -
    Tick MacroView DMF and click Finish

  7. Enable the MacroView DMF - Search feature on the web application you wish use with MacroView DMF 

    Be sure to select the correct web application before activating the feature. If you are using Fast Search Server there are additional steps, see section 5.8 in the Install and Configuration Guide.

  8. Run a full crawl of the Content Source that contains that web application.

    Be sure to setup a schedule for incremental crawls so your users can find newly saved documents.

  9. Enable the MacroView DMF Site Columns and Content Types site collection feature on each site collection

    - Adding our Email content type to your libraries is a great way to get started automatically capturing metadata

Client prerequisites

First make sure the following prerequisites are installed on each workstation

  • Windows Vista or later recommended
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 or above
  • Microsoft Office 2007, 2010, 2013 or 2016
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2
  • Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO) 4.0 Runtime
  • Office .Net Programmability also known as Microsoft Office Primary Interop Assemblies.

    For Office 2007 or Office 2010 they can be downloaded by selecting the links or via the Office setup process for other versions. By default they are already loaded if .Net Framework v2 to 3.5 was installed prior to Office. 

Client installation

  1. Close all Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point)
  2. Also close Internet Explorer and Adobe Reader
  3. Run the MacroView DMF Client Installer provided
  4. Double click on the MacroView DMF icon on your desktop
  5. Enter a server name and the URL to the web application that is serving your content
