SharePoint Online or SharePoint Server 2019 allows you to add a link in a document library to an item that is located outside the document library. For example, you can add a link to a file or folder located in a different document library or site.
See this article for more information on using a link to document.
If the Link to Document content type has been added to your SharePoint document library, you can also create links to other document using these.
These links are then listed in the MacroView DMF or Message file list when the library, folder or document set is created in is selected and when selected will display a preview of the file referenced by the link.
The Type icon for linked document includes a small arrow to indicate that it is a link and an actual document.
Double clicking or using right-click open on a link will open the file that is referenced by the link.
The other functions on the right-click context menu of a Link or Link to Document item in MacroView DMF or Message are very similar to the functions for other files however some of the functions apply to the document or file that the link references and others apply to the Link or Link to Document itself.
